Parappa the Rapper Cover Arts

Image
Parappa the Rapper is a video game about a dog named Parappa who solves his problems through rapping, whether it's about him learning karate, getting his drivers license, or going to the bathroom. It's known for being the first rhythm game and for it's weird and unique visual style that makes the characters look like they came from a pop-up book, so I figured why not give my thoughts on the covers that released in some regions? I'll only cover the ones from the PlayStation 1 since future ports just use the original ones. This is the original cover released in Japan. We see Parappa and his friends having a good time alongside PJ DJing. The bosses are in the background (except for King Kong Mushi  who's at the bottom left) crossing their arms in disapproval and Joe Chin in the background riding his cool car. I like this one as it reminds me of a children's story book with all of the characters and bright colors. I didn't notice it until writing this, but the...

Like a Dragon 1 (Yakuza) Cover Arts

Image
Like a Dragon (known as "Yakuza" outside of Asia) is an action beat 'em up game where you play as Kazuma Kiryu, a yakuza who's whole life changes when he takes the blame of the murder of his boss and is imprisoned for 10 years (in the joint) . After his release, he learns that his world has completely changed and that 10 billion yen has been stolen with the entire underworld going after it. The game has different cover arts when it released in Asia and internationally and I'll be covering them in this post as well as the remake, Like a Dragon Kiwami (Yakuza Kiwami). This is the cover art released in Asia and I have to say that I really love this one. It's such a minimalistic cover with Kiryu kicking the sky yet it tells you what the gameplay is about. Not only that, but the black and white colors make the red from the logo and the warning sign stand out. Not much else I can say other than it's an amazing cover. Here we have the one released in the West wit...

Sonic Frontiers Review

Image
Sonic Frontiers is an interesting game to me. When I first saw the first gameplay trailer, I honestly thought it looked like garbage. Everything about what was shown looked choppy from the Sonic’s weirdly snappy movements, the overworld not looking like anything from the series, and the very bad pop-in graphics (which is still a problem in the final game). I thought: “Man, this game looks so awful. The Sonic series is still going to be a joke.” I don’t think I’ve seen a game trailer that disappointed me. Sega would upload more trailers over the next couple of months and my thoughts of the game would start to change. I still wasn’t a fan of a Sonic game being open-world styled, but the game started to look kind of better and the story of Sonic and his friends stuck in a cyberspace dimension with the new character named “Sage”. I was like “Okay, this game is starting to look better now, but the game still looks kind of weird.” Then the final game was released, so I bought and finished th...

Super Mario Movie review

Image
This review was originally made a few days after the movie released. I'm just putting it here since it's been in my Google Doc for a while. I never thought of typing out a my full thoughts on the Super Mario movie, but something was compelling me to that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I saw the film with my cousins and friend on Saturday with an open mind since I know the Mario games are known for their very simple stories and there was the whole online discourse about the critic score (The critic score is currently at 57% while the audience score is at 96%).    My brain telling me to write this review After watching it my, cousins and I thought the movie was mediocre while my friend liked it. I think a day or two later, one of my friends in the group chat said he absolutely loved the movie while the others thought it was okay. I find it surprising how The Super Mario Bros film has gotten so many polarized reviews from both critics and audiences, which influenced me to wri...
